Broncos Sign Alexander, Snell to Active Roster

Oct. 11 2007

The Denver Broncos on Wednesday signed free-agent guard P.J. Alexander and added guard Isaac Snell to their active roster from Tennessee 's practice squad, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Alexander (6-foot-4, 297 pounds) is a fifth-year player who joins the Broncos for his second stint with the club, having been on Denver 's roster from 2003-05. He most recently played for Atlanta in 2006 and competed in the club's 2007 training camp before he was released on Sept. 1.

A Syracuse University product, Alexander entered the NFL as a college free agent with New Orleans on April 26, 2002, and was with the Saints from 2002-03. He has played nine career regular-season games (4 starts) and also appeared in Denver 's AFC Wild Card Game during the 2004 season.

After the Broncos waived him on Aug. 29, 2006, Alexander joined the Falcons as a free agent on Oct. 18 of that year. He started all four games played with Atlanta , marking the first starting experience of his career.

Alexander played four seasons at Syracuse , starting 23 games at left tackle during his final two years with the Orangemen. An honorable mention all-state selection at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee , Fla. , Alexander was born on Dec. 23, 1978, in Springfield , Mass.

Snell (6-foot-6, 288 pounds) is a second-year player who was signed by the Broncos from Tennessee 's practice squad, where he spent the first five weeks of the season. He joined the Titans as a practice squad signee on Nov. 1 and concluded the 2006 campaign with that group.

After playing at North Dakota State University , Snell entered the NFL with the New York Jets as a college free agent on April 29, 2005. He began his rookie year on the Jets' practice squad but was signed to their active roster on Nov. 14, 2005. The guard did not play in two contests and was inactive for four other games with the Jets that year before the club allocated him to NFL Europa, where he played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in the spring.

A linebacker and defensive lineman at NDSU, Snell played 37 games and totaled 109 tackles along with seven sacks during his collegiate career. Snell, who was an honorable mention all-state pick at Pipestone High School in Pipestone, Minn., was born on Nov. 4, 1981.

    Broncos Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Jay Cutler is prepared to be better in 2008, now that he finally knows he has Type 1 diabetes.

Cutler was feeling so poorly before being diagnosed in April that it was somewhat of a relief to find out what was wrong. He knows it is a serious condition but he is ready to make the off-field changes necessary to help him in his career.

"It's not going to change me on the field," Cutler said. "I'll make some lifestyle changes but I'll probably be a better quarterback this year than I was last year."

Last year, in October, Cutler started to lose weight. He started the season at 238 pounds but played the season finale at 203. During a quick conversation with the Broncos' training staff, they wondered if the grind of the season was the problem.
