In the preseason, the sotry isn't the score as much as it is how things are working. In tonight's Houston Texans vs. Denver Broncos match-up, newbie Texan Eric Moulds, formerly of the Buffalo (ain't goin' to the Super Bowl anytime soon) Bills was trying to work it out with 4th year Texan QB David Carr. But, it wasn't working out too good.
Moulds is supposed to be the missing element of a dynamic offense but it's not there...at least not yet. Moulds has more than 670 receptions in his 10 year career, one of the leaders of the Class of 2006 receivers (just bellow Terrell Owens). But he was stuck in an offense at Buffalo that was ground oriented and didn't have the same opportunities he might otherwise have had to rack up numbers. Meanwhile, the Broncos are looking pedestrian at a time when Jake Plummer is supposed to be looking pretty special. Well ...he ain't.
The fledgling Texas defensive line was bringing a lot of effective pressure to Plummer and that is more than a little surprising.
The only thing special about tonight's match-up, though, were some pretty good commercials and a strong Texan kicker (I didn't get the name because who really thinks about kickers all that much). Just from what I saw of the two teams, I don't think I'll be giving them much credit for making things happen against good teams early on in the season. And FYI: Carr should have progressed more when it comes to reading his receivers and coverage than he has in four years.
Ladies and gentlemen, the starting lineup for the Sex Panthers, the soon-to-be-2006 champions of the Big Ass Football League:
QB Jake Plummer WR Hines Ward WR Javon Walker RB Larry Johnson TE Heath Miller WR/RB Willie Jackson WR/TE Laveranues Coles
K David Akers
DL Nick Barnett DL Keith Brooking DL Derrick Brooks DL Cato June DB Champ Bailey DB Sammy Knight DB Charles Tillman
And those riding the pine, for now:
QB Marc Bulger QB Chad Pennington WR Andre Johnson WR Joe Jurevicius RB Fred Taylor TE Joel Klopfenstein DL Karlos Dansby DL Lance Briggs DB Brian Dawkins DB Michael Lewis
If any of y'all are participating in fantasy football this year and have had your draft already, lemme know who you got. I'm interested in seeing whom everyone else is forging into the 2006 season with.
