One thing that Cindy and I like to do is to check out some of the new facilities in Arizona. We went to the Dodge Theatre soon after it had opened. We went to watch the Coyotes play in their new arena. Now it was our turn to go check out the new Cardinals stadium, which has been in the making for several years. About a month and a half ago the Cardinals put out a notice about the opening day for ticket sales. Tickets were to go on sale at 10:00 am on this particular day to the residents of Arizona (12:00 pm for everyone else). I was at the computer when the clock struck 10 o'clock. I put in for tickets to the Pittsburgh Steelers opening game first, but had no luck there. I understand that the season ticket holder had first shot at snapping up extra tickets for that game leaving very little for the general public. So as a backup we tried for the second game, against the Denver Broncos. Much better luck, this time around. Since the game was scheduled for Michael's Birthday, cha-ching...an excellent opportunity for a birthday gift. So we got him a ticket too. Since Buddy would be in town, and he is a big football fan we figured lets just get him a ticket too. Sure his birthday is not for a couple months, but what the heck. So that's what we did, we purchased four tickets at that time. Cindy and I thought this would be a great way for us all to go see the new stadium...together! As it turned out, events after the purchase of the tickets changed. Cindy and I got tickets to the Monster Jam, which was scheduled to be at the new stadium before the football game. So when we went to that on Saturday, that would be our first time to see the new facility. When Buddy bought his families new van, as a perk he received two tickets to the Pittsburgh game. So he went to that a couple weeks ago. So what originally was intended to be an inaugural adventure to the stadium for all of us turned out to be just a new experience for Michael.
But despite that, we all had a great time. Parking was not nearly as difficult as I had expected. The game started at 7:00 pm. I got off work at 5:00 pm. Cindy got off from her work early and arrived home around 5:30 pm. Michael was waiting at our house around 5:30 pm as well. We drove over to pick up Buddy thereafter. The freeway was congested from rush hour traffic but moved along at a good pace. We turned onto Glendale Avenue and pulled right into the parking lot. The walk was about a quarter to half mile to the stadium. We went through security and entered the facility at about 6:25 pm. Not bad at all! There were definitely more people in attendance than were at the monster truck show. It was fairly crowded. The lines for food and drink were not too bad, similar to a line at a movie theater during a busy period. We found our seats, basically about 10 rows from the very top of the complex. We were way up there! The game started on time. The crowd was into it. The only challenge about our seating was that a little boy that sat behind Cindy kicked her seat non-stop. I put my arm back behind her to see if I could stop him but he ended up just kicking my arm instead. You would have thought that his parents would have said something but they didn't. Sheesh! There were a few rowdy fans and a little bit of smack talking, but overall the crowd was pro Cardinals and there was far more maroon and white than orange and blue.
As for the game, the Cardinals played decent for a while. Then they played poorly for a while. Typical Cardinals! Jake Plummer did not play for the Broncos. But we did get to see the new quarterback Leinart play a couple quarters. There was some drama, a few crazy plays and some decent performances. But in the end the final score did not go in favor of the home team. Arizona Cardinals 23 - 29 Denver Broncos
Cindy and I enjoyed the evening out. We were glad to share the experience with Michael and Buddy. Go Cardinals!
