Reasons NOT to Like This Season’s NFL Favorites
I’ve read what seems to be billions of words this year regarding the upcoming NFL Season. Through those billions of words, it seems a handful of teams are common picks to do well this year: Carolina, Indianapolis, New England, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Denver. However, I have a few reasons for each team why I’m afraid of picking them this season.
Carolina: This seems to be everyone’s pick for at least the NFC. That scares me. All though New England constantly met expectations from the media, the sexy pick still scares the shit out of me. Also, it seems like Carolina is the type of team that has made the move when it’s been unexpected. When expectations were there, injuries occurred or otherwise. Mostly, I’m afraid because of the expectations placed on them. Literally everyone I’ve read loves them to at least get to the Super Bowl, with some picking them to win it all.
Indianapolis: They do it every year. You think they are ready to make the move. They started 13-0 last season, and many were already ranking them historically. However, another early flameout for Manning and Co. leaves questions. James’ departure didn’t help things. There’s still a lot to like about this team but history is not on their side.
Dallas: I have a feeling the T.O.-Parcells-Jones love triangle will not work out. Okay, not exactly a stretch. However, like Carolina, this team is getting a ton of run…although most of it is deserved. There’s still something that worries me about the defense and Drew Bledsoe though. We’ll see. Plus, they play in the NFC Beast, the hardest division in recent years.
New England: I think their arrogance of not awarding players not named Tom Brady will hit them. They lost the kicker who shall not be named on this Web site, Ty Law, Willie McGinest and are now willing to trade Deion Branch. Arrogance on the part of Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft will prevent this team from winning another Super Bowl in the next few years. Well, that is unless if we are attacked by terrorists again and the NFL rigs the playoffs for the PATRIOTS to win.
Pittsburgh: Big Ben failing his Evil Knievel attempt this summer will hurt the Steelers. Also, while not losing huge parts of their team, they lost some little parts which will accumulate to a big loss. I would not be shocked to see them fall to third place in the AFC North. Also, the Bill Cowher coaching situation could turn into a soap opera if a contract is not agreed to.
Denver: Letting Trevor Pryce go, along with Mike Anderson, was not wise. Drafting Jay Cutler, which will screw Jake Plummer’s mind up even more, was not smart. They will take apart a horrible AFC West division, but will flame out in the playoffs again.
