Heisman trophy winner and former Wisconsin RB Ron Dayne suffered another setback in his lackluster pro career when he was cut by the Denver Broncos today as teams whittled their teams to a final 53.
Also lost in the shuffle was Green Bay Packer Najeh Davenport. A pretty big surprise on the surface, you have to remember that Davenport has yet to complete a full season, having been injury riddled for much of his career. He missed most of last season with a broken ankle and missed much of his rookie season with a broken eye socket. His return this past off-season has been unexciting, with more injuries plaguing him and low production during the pre-season.
Supposedly we tried to trade him, but none of the offers were worth it, so we cut him knowing that someone will pick him up...
This was sort of my reaction yesterday after I completed my online registration for the Golden Leaf Half marathon and made lodging reservations. I’m excited and looking forward to it but I also feel apprehensive because I sense my physical condition has gone to crap. I’ve been slacking much this summer.
I haven’t pursued strength, distance or speed training to the extent that I’ve done for past runs simply because my motivation has not been that great. In the past year there has been accumulation of plenty of mental and emotional baggage brought on by illness and overall unfortunate events in my family. Guilt and worry being my constant companions put lead in shoes. Enough though, forward is the only direction.
More good stuff for me â€" I have ticket (not tickets) to Jeff Beck concert to kick off my trip to Aspen for the run. I saw him here in Denver a couple of years ago with BB King and agree that he’s a guitar god. Just for fun I’m making a totally retro 70’s dress to wear. :P My older cousins who grew up in this era will be so jealous, maybe they’ll let me borrow a vinyl album cover so I can wave it. haha
I’ve been a little busy with domestic stuff in the kitchen this week. teehee.. We stopped in Palisade, Colorado on the weekend to pick up some tasty peaches. I love fresh peaches. For later when the snow starts flyin’, I canned what we couldn’t eat right away. I was going to make some preserved apple pie filling but haven’t had a four hour block to do them yet - maybe tomorrow. This morning I had to finish making pickled jalapenos. I don’t always enjoy this kitchen work but the food tastes so much better than store bought.
Tuesday was a three mile run, I didn’t break any records. Wednesday I missed the group run but managed a 45 minute run along the trails all by my self before the group gathered. I needed to be at The Kid’s school to meet teachers so I decided to get my trail running completed ahead of time. My planned 1.5 hours of run went belly up when I locked myself out of the truck as soon as I arrived at the trail head. I’m getting real chummy with those lock-out guys this year. Pretty soon they’ll have to give me their direct lines and we’ll be on first name basis.
I really hope to get a long run in this weekend with one of the girls from the Wednesday group. She was planning on 12 miles but I don’t exactly want to go over 10.
