Today I reveal my AFC Preview for the season. The season kicks off tonight with two contenders from the AFC in the Steelers and Dolphins. I don't think I am alone here in Bengal country when I say, Go Dolphins! Well anyway, on with the preview.

AFC NORTH

1. Cincinnati
2. Pittsburgh
3. Baltimore
4. Cleveland

Sure this could be a homer pick, but with a healthy Palmer and what should be an improved defense, I just don’t see the Bengals not winning the division. Pittsburgh has lost some key components and have injury problems to key players. I think their defense will be good enough to keep them ahead of Baltimore. The Ravens have become this years big sleeper pick in the national media. Yes they are improved with McNair at QB, but I don’t think their defense is as good as everyone makes it out to be, its definitely not dominant like it was 6 years ago. And Cleveland is still a couple of years away from contending for anything. I think Charlie Frye can be a decent QB but with that weak offensive line he won’t get a lot of time to throw the ball, and that is not good for any QB especially one as inexperienced as Frye.

AFC EAST

1. New England
2. Miami
3. Buffalo
4. New York

I really really wanted to pick Miami to win this division. But I couldn’t pull the trigger. I feel these two teams will be neck and neck the entire season but unfortunately I have to give the edge to the Pats. I am just not ready to bet against Tom Brady yet, although I will cheer against him every week. With a healthy Corey Dillon, the Pats will have a nice 1-2 punch at RB with him and Maroney. They still have some holes on defense, especially in the secondary, but I guess ESPN has hypnotized me in believing in the Patriot hype. Miami always has a tough defense and this year should have a solid O to go along with it. I think some people forget how good Culpepper was two years ago because of the season Manning had that year. Culpepper could have set some records that year if it weren’t for Peyton. If Culpepper returns to form this year the Dolphins could put up some big numbers. I really don’t know why I am picking the Pats. Buffalo and New York have too many question marks at QB to really take seriously as long as the many other problems those two teams have.

AFC SOUTH

1. Indianapolis
2. Jacksonville
3. Houston
4. Tennessee

I guess the only thing that can be considering surprising in this prediction is Houston isn’t at the bottom. I think Jeff Fisher is a really good coach and can get a lot out of his players but this year he doesn’t have much to work with. Billy Volek looked so bad in preseason they had to go out and get Kerry Collins. I guess one positive is they have some good RB’s in Brown, Henry and White, which means other teams will force Volek/Collins to beat them, which they wont. As of right now Indy still has the most dominant Offense in the league although the Bengals are coming close. Last year showed that if the offense slips up that the defense will be able to keep them in the game, which is something that could not be said of past Colt teams. The Jaguars are built oppositely than Indy, in that its their D that it dominant, while their offense is just a little above average. I like Leftwich but I can’t see the Jags being able to keep up against offenses like Indy. As far as Houston is concerned I am not sure how long it will take them to contend, but they are on the right track. I thought they had a good draft although they got ripped for passing on Bush.

AFC WEST

1. Kansas City
2. Denver
3. San Diego
4. Oakland

When I first typed this I had Denver winning, but after thinking it over for a second, I changed that pick to the Chiefs, although Kansas City will lose in Week One *crosses fingers*. Now I don’t expect Larry Johnson to run at the pace he did the 2nd half of last season, but he will show that he is a Top 3 back in the league. Kansas City has always had a good offense though. This offseason they made some moves to improve their D, and I like what they have done. Although some of the players they acquired are a bit older than I would like, if we are strictly talking this year I give it a thumbs up and enough to bump Denver out of first place. Denver will still have a very solid club. On defense they will return all their key places, on offense however they made a lot of moves. They are going with the tandem of Mike and Tatum Bell at RB as they lost Mike Anderson in the offseason. I like Mike Anderson, but really does it matter who you put in at RB in Denver? At WR they got rid of Ashley Lelie and added Javon Walker. This is an obvious upgrade given that Walker can stay healthy. Jake Plummer returns at QB who I think Denver fans are a bit harsh on. Sure he isn’t a great QB but he is by no means a bad one. Denver fans are too worried about finding the next Elway and anything less just won’t cut it for them. In San Diego it will be the first year of Phillip Rivers at QB. I think Rivers will turn out to be a good QB, but not this year. He has a solid team around him but I don’t see Rivers in his first year being able to compete with KC or Denver. Oakland is brutal and so bad that I really don’t want to talk about them.

AFC Playoff Teams

Cincinnati
New England
Indianapolis
Kansas City
Miami
Denver

Yeah you might be thinking that I don’t have the Steelers making the postseason because I hate them. That is only part of it, but I really do believe they have lost a lot compared to last year. Last year they struggled to make the playoffs and I feel this year will be a struggle as well. Their D will keep them in the race, but I see the Dolphins and Broncos finishing with better records.

Tommorow I will have my NFC Preview and Saturday will be the Award and Super Bowl predictions.

What a week! We are fully moved into our new place and we will hopefully finish unpacking today. We worked all day yesterday only taking a break for a nice little surprise birthday party thrown for Judi and I by my parents and Jonas and Tiff. Our two cats (or our 'kids' as we call them) are starting to adjust to the new house. It's quite a bit larger than the apartment we previously lived in so they have a lot of space to explore and get into trouble.

Having more space also means we have to buy more stuff to fill the space! Moving is always cheaper on paper. Not to worry. We actually planned quite well for the move and are staying right on budget. This means I'll get my rocket powered jet-pack soon...Hooray!!!

We also attended Jared and Deanna's wedding on Saturday. It was a wonderful ceremony and celebration after. Jonas, Josh and I had the honor of standing on Jared's side and I must say we looked pretty snazzy in our monkey suits. Dinner and dancing followed. Okay, that was an understatement. The best dinner I've ever graced my tastebuds with and more dancing than a Broadway music followed. The tenderloin was so tender it could be cut with a fork. It melted in my mouth followed by creamy mashed potatoes all slathered in a carmely mushroom sauce. Booyeah! The dancing was joyous and lively. I continually re-affirmed my knowledge that I cannot dance. It's not like I don't have rhythm, I do. I just can't apply that to my bodily movements.

Jared and Deanna are in Tulum, Mexico by now sipping on tropical drinks and bathing in sunlight and sea mists. Me...I'm just laying here in bed enjoying the serenity of a silent home before it gets crazy again with all the unpacking that is in store today. Feel free to drop by and help any time. I won't hold my breath though.
