With the NFL season officially kicking off Thursday, I figured now was a good time to post my predictions for the order of finish in each division, as well as my playoffs picks and Super Bowl winner. So without further ado:

Ok, so the boring pick at least as far as the Super Bowl winner is concerned, but I like the Indianapolis Colts to be your Super Bowl champs, beating the New York Giants. Obviously there's the concern for some people about Peyton Manning never winning the big game, or Edge being gone, but I think Indy will be just fine. The defense should be improving even more, and they still have the most dangerous offense in football. Which is why they're my pick as the Super Bowl champs.

I was looking forward to today until yesterday. I was on a team of 10 running Colorado Relay which is a 24 hour 170 mile relay race in the mountains. I thought by the afternoon I would be feeling better but I was getting worse- some kind of respiratory crud. I really wanted to do this relay. Then I got the kids back at 4:30pm and my daughter wasn’t feeling well either. She couldn’t put anything in her mouth including the binky so I knew the mouth blisters were returning. Not this again- last time she was so miserable. DB claimed she only had a fever during the night and slept for 14 hours but had no signs of any blisters and IT IS NOT HERPES! He is so adamant about proving he did not pass his oral herpes to our daughter.

I took her out of her car seat and could see a small blister on her lip- it appeared during the 20 minute car ride home. I called him and told him that, “the blisters are back”. I never referred to it as “herpes” but he was hell-bent on letting me know that he spent $800 on all the lab tests and the blood worked showed no signs of herpes. I told him it doesn’t always show up in blood work with the first outbreak. He said the swab test confirmed no herpes. I didn’t see a swab test and I have a copy of the medical report. He said it was not herpes, it was a viral infection, and that’s why the doctor gave her an antibiotic. I told him antibiotics are not prescribed for viral infections- they are prescribed for bacterial infections. Next? Knowledge is power.

I don’t know what I had hoped to accomplish by informing him that the blisters are back and our daughter is going to be miserable all over again. I told him, “You know what is like to have herpes. When you get a sore all you want to do is sleep. Why do you think she slept for 14 hours last night?” He said it is some other kind of viral mouth sore.

He texted that he could take the kids in the morning. The team found a last minute replacement for the relay so I decided I’d save a vacation day at work and let him watch the kids for the day. He waited until 10:47pm to send a message stating: “I already drove to Denver now, sorry. I don’t want to argue w u anymore. When u said “I want u to know our daughter will be miserable all weekend, goodbye” I left. I love these children soo much. All I want is peace 4 them.”

I didn’t get the message until after I was already on the road with the kids this morning so the kids got to come to work until my mom could come pick them up after her group hike.

A year ago I would have said the following words to him in my head as he would belittle me and place all the blame on me for his lot in life. Not now. I returned his text: “Peace comes with truth. There is no peace in your lies. If you want peace you need to look within. I say that with sincerity.”

I covered more ground than the 170 mile relay I had to miss.
