ESPN has a series going right now called the Ultimate Depth Chart. They rank each team by the following five categories. - QB's - RB's - Pass catchers - Pass defense - Run defense
They then ranked each team using that system, and came up with the overall rankings. Next, they predicted which teams will make the playoffs, and that's where they are as of the writing of this post.
Here are my playoff predictions based on ESPN's playoff projections.
Wild Card Round
BAL NE - They have the Ravens sneaking in as the AFC's #6 seed. Sorry McNair, but I don't see you winning this contest. Pats win easily and will play the Colts in the next round.
KC DEN - I can't look at the Kansas City chiefs without thinking about the "Who are the Chefs?" commercial. Bit I digress. Who's good on Kansas City's team anyway? Despite that, I'm thinking of the Broncos' impressive run last year, which included dethroning the then-defending champion New England Patriots. Broncos win this one and play the defending champion Steelers the next round.
ATL WSH - Now this is a tough pick. I'm liking the Falcons' running game and also Washington's passing game. Air versus ground. However, when the passing game is a little down, the running game can help your team move the chains. Atlanta wins in Washington, plays division-rival Carolina next round.
DAL CHI - If T.O. can keep his ego down and not tick everybody off like in Philly, the Dallas passing game can be dangerous. However, if Rex Grossman gets injured, Brian Griese can be a rather solid backup. Is it enough to stop the Cowboys? Nope. I don't expect the Bears to shuffle through (no pun intended). Cowboys win, face the Seahawks next round.
Divisional Round
NE IND - Tough pick. Tough, tough pick. Indy was nearly unstoppable at home last season, but it's this season that counts. Being Edgerin Jamesless shouldn't stop the Colts' significantly. There will always be that missing link though. The two best quarterbacks according to ESPN's analysis are playing. Brady being #1 and Big-Brother Manning being #2. Who gets the upper hand in this match? I say Payton Manning. Colts advance.
DEN PIT - How can I not pick against the defending champions? Well, they have to defend without such key players like Antwaan Randle El and the now-retired Jerome Bettis. I'm going with the upset here. You read right, Broncos to upset the Super Bowl XL Champions.
ATL CAR - Recent NFC South trends have three teams in somewhat of a rock-paper-scissors situation. Falcons beat Panthers beat Bucs beat Falcons. I expect this trend to be broken if this condition does occur. Panthers advance.
DAL SEA - Seahawks' running game will be the difference. Hoping Alexander doesn't suffer the "Madden Curse," I see Seattle advancing.
Conference Championship
DEN IND - Peyton Manning is one of the best QB's in the NFL, however he has a history of choking in the playoffs. Whether my upset pick does happen or if the Steelers get through, I say Indy will prevail and head to Miami.
CAR SEA - This pick won't be as much of an upset as Denver over Pittsburgh. But as inferior as I am to NFC South teams outside of Florida, I have to pick the Panthers to play for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Projected Super Bowl XLI Game: Colts vs. Panthers
If this is true, Peyton Manning will make his first Super Bowl appearance and Jake Delhomme will make his first appearance since losing to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. How many Colts fans you think will come out of the woodwork if this happens? Fewer than the Panthers. For reasons mentioned above, this will be very difficult to say, but my pick for the Super Bowl XLI Champions is the Carolina Panthers.
It never has been, although I've heard my mom call it that a time or two. Yes, she listens to Peter Boyles. It was always a toss off point in a larger conversation, so I never looked it up before.
Now Colorado has its own Media Matters to look into these things for me. (via SquareState)
There is a difference between policy and practice. Sometimes the police have failed to detain suspects because of their legal status. But it has never been the policy of the police to refuse to cooperate with the federal government.
Colorado Media Matters says, "A federal immigration spokesman has stated that he knows of 'no Colorado city' that has a policy against reporting illegal immigrants to federal officials, a policy that is prohibited under Colorado law" as of May 1. However, The News article also referred to Section 104.52 (3) of the Denver Police Department Operations Manual, which states: "Generally, officers will not detain, arrest, or take enforcement action against a person solely because he/she is suspected of being an undocumented immigrant." However, the manual further explains that "when a suspect believed to be an undocumented immigrant is arrested for other charges, a 'Refer to Immigration' charge will be added to the original charges. Sheriff's Department Personnel will then notify the I.N.S. authorities according to their procedures.' " According to the News, "Denver sends ICE the names of jailed foreign-born inmates. So do other counties in Colorado." The police have sometimes failed to send ICE the names of jailed foreign-born inmates. The wording of the DPD Operations Manual requires police to do something they have sometimes failed to do. But that is a violation of policy, not a policy of sanctuary.
So the newly enacted law which Boyles touts as proof that Denver was a sanctuary city makes law, not mere policy, the requirement to report foreign-born inmates. I don't see where the penalty is for officers or departments who fail to comply.
Plus, the law still doesn't require police to take action against detainees who may be suspected of being illegal immigrants. So nothing has really changed.
