Great teams, great players, and great games! For the first time in many years their is not a clear shot number 1 team. There are honestly at least 15 teams fighting for that National Championship Game on January 8th in Arizona. What scares me about this season is the BCS system which will be truly tested at the end of this year. Write it down....there will be at least 6 teams with 1 loss and only 1 undefeated team come bowl season. Which means, who plays in the national title? Will tradition ride over a good season? Or will a star player carry his team over a group of unknowns? Fortunately for us, we get to sit back and watch this unbelievable season play out!
Now without further a do, here is my Top 10!
1. West Virginia Mountaineers- Jack Daniels and Football. It has Dan Sanow written all over it! After their stunning 38-35 win over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl last year, I have been in first class on their bandwagon. They are fast, talented, and young! Sophomore QB Pat White and Sophomore TB Steve Slaton could become household names this year. They are returning along with ALL their recievers and three men from the O-Line. The defense is returning 4 starters and lots of experience. Coach Rodriguez has done a fantastic job in Morgantown building this team to dominate the low/slow/weak Big East. An easy schedule will propel this team into a National Championship. The onle possible hiccup along the way...a November 2nd matchup at Louisville. If the Mountaineers come out on top, look for them in Arizona!

2. Ohio State Buckeyes- I know, it makes me sick too but look at this offense they are returning: QB Troy Smith, TB Antonio Pittman, WR Anthony Gonzalez, and Mr. Everything Ted Ginn Jr. Yes their defense lost possibly the greatest core of linebackers a team could have, but they might actually be better! The secondary could be a weakness, but there is alot of talent. The biggest loss for this team won't be the linebacking core of Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegel, but rather the leg of Mr. Mike Nugent. No more guaranteed field goals and extra points, but who knows, Ted Ginn Jr. could be kicking field goals by the end of the year! You are probably thinking...why aren't these guys number 1? Kicking and their schedule. They have their hyped up rematch at defending national champion Texas and their instant classic to close the season at home against Michigan. But their are two other games that catch my eye....at Iowa and at Northwestern the weekend before Michigan. You don't want to look past this inspired Wildcat team in Evanston!

3. Auburn Tigers- I love the SEC and I hate the SEC. I love it because of all the great teams and a unique style of play. I hate it because all the teams beat up on each other and ruin their national title hopes. The SEC is stacked as always but I think Auburn will come out on top. They are returning a phenominal backfield with QB Brandon Cox and RBs Kenny Irons and Brad Lester. What stands out to me is Auburn's home schedule. In the brutal SEC, homefield advantage is huge! Auburn has the big boys at home this year...LSU, Florida, and Georgia. They get South Carolina and Alabama on the road. Auburn has a chance to put together a magical season, but at the same time they could finish 8-4!

4. LSU Tigers- Keeping the love in the SEC! Hopefully talent rules over the schedule. JaMarcus Russell is a fantastic college quarterback, and backup Matt Flynn is just as good. They will be throwing to the best receiver core in the SEC and helping rebuild a running game. The Tigers are replacing several players but should be OK at the important positions. A very name heavy schedule will help the Tigers in the BCS this year. Games at Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee could be trouble, but a home schedule that includes Arizona, Tulane, Miss St, Kentucky, Fresno St, Alabama, and Ole Miss will make the season interesting!

5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish- Lots of hype coming out of South Bend this year and why not? They are returning nearly the entire team that went 9-3 last year. Brady Quinn might be the best QB in college football. He has the arm and quickness to create big plays to his favorite WR/Cubs Middle Reliever Jeff Samardzija (had to look that name up for spelling). Darius Walker is a great RB that gets lost in all the Quinn hype. What I don't like about the Irish is their defense. They return nearly all their starters that gave up 44 points to Michigan State, 31 points to Stanford, and nearly 400 yards a game last year. Not a good stat when going up against Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, UCLA, and the rematch at USC!

6. California Golden Bears- It's the year of the Bears in Cali! Jeff Tedford is a great coach who is returning a great offense and defense this year. The Bears have their choice of QBs between Nate Longshore or Joe Ayoob, both legitimate starters. Either QB will be surrounded by solid returning WRs and the sensational RB Marshawn Lynch. Even with this great offense, the Bears will rely on their stellar defense that returns 7 starters. It won't be easy for the boys from Berkley as they play at Tennessee to start the season and travel to Arizona and the Coliseum to battle USC. A home schedule includes Minnesota, Arizona State, Oregon, and UCLA.

7. USC Trojans- No Matt Leinart. No Reggie Bush. No LenDale White, Winston Justice, or Dominique Byrd and we are still a top 10 team! First thing first, the reinstatement of stud WR Dwayne Jarrett is HUGE. If he was still suspended by the NCAA this isn't a top 10 team. John David Booty is stepping onto a huge stage at USC. He doesn't have any big game experience, but he can play. All he needs to do is throw the ball up and have Jarrett run it down for 6. You can't replace Bush and White but the Trojans will try with another combo of speed and muscle. Pete Carroll has put together another great team. USC has become the place for prep all americans to go. As the old saying goes, we don't rebuild we reload. The Trojans end the season with a terrible 4 game schedule, with 3 at home. Home against Oregon, California, Notre Dame, then at UCLA.

8. Texas Longhorns- It must be nice to lose Vince Young and a great running back and still be favored in your conference. Unless it's the Big 12 and everyone is terrible! I can't stand the Big 12 conference anymore. Texas is a mediocre football team run by a freshman QB Colt McCoy. They return alot of players from their national championship team, but not Vince Young. The Longhorns play in the big 12 which means 7 automatic wins. We'll see what this team is truly made of when the Buckeyes come into town.

9. Iowa Hawkeyes- Surprise surprise my friends. Let me be the first to say, this team could be number 1 come January. Drew Tate can be the best and worst QB in the nation. When he is on their is no one better. This Hawkeye team is stacked with returning starters. Tate returns with his offensive line, and running back Albert Young. The defense returns 7 starters and several reserves. The loss of LBs Greenway and Hodge will hurt but their ar being replaced by athletic linebackers. The Hawkeyes have a great schedule. They host Iowa State, Ohio State, Purdue, Northwestern and Wisconsin. They go on the road against Syracuse, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota. Could a Big Ten title be headed to Kinnick Stadium?

10. TCU Horned Frogs- It wouldn't be fun if I didn't shake things up a bit! The Frogs return their hot shot QB Jeff Ballard and RB Robert Merrill. The Horns can flat out play. They averaged 400 yards and 33 points a game last year. Their defense returns 6 starters from a squad that gave up only 18 points a game and led the nation in turnover margin. A game at Utah will prove if this team is a legitimate top 10 team!

The Next 5- Eric Walters, Bo, and Drew Henson are flipping out right now because the Maize and Blue have not been listed. But coming up are the "other" five teams who I think could make a push for the top 10 if not the national championship.

Michigan Wolverines- Returning lots of talent and you still have Lord Carr. At Notre Dame, at Minnesota, at Penn State, at Indiana, at Ohio State. Home against Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, and the Chips from Central! You will blow 2 or 3 of these games.
Louisville Cardinals- Brian Brohm is my favorite QB in America and Michael Bush is the most under rated player in the nation. Watch out as the host Miami and West Virginia!
Florida Gators- Chris Leak, you are due! I have made you my preseason Heisman Trophy winner 2 years now and you have let me down! Florida is good, but the Gators win the HOLY CRAP SCHEDULE Award this year. Southern Miss, Central Florida, at Tennessee, Kentucky, Bama, LSU, at Auburn, Georgia, at Vandy, South Carolina, Western Carolina?, and at Florida State. Good Luck!
Florida State Seminoles- The ACC is tough and under rated. I am not sure if Drew Weatherford is capable of leading the Seminoles and Lorenzo Booker has been a disappointment. But I never count out Bobby Bowden. With games at Miami and Maryland, and hosting Clemson, BC, Virginia, the Western Michigan Broncos, and Florida the Seminoles are ready for another BCS game.
Clemson Tigers- I think Baby Bowden is ready to beat out Papa Bowden. Clemson is capable of making some noise this year. They return several players from an 8-4 team last year that won the Champs Sports Bowl. A tough road schedule is ahead with games at BC, FSU, and VT.

OVER RATED!! Here are my teams that you will hear alot about to start the year but I just don't think they have it.

Oklahoma Sooners- Too many off the field problems and the loss of too many players. Rhett Bomar is not a number 1 QB, but Adrian Peterson is pretty good. I don't know if anyone is left on the team after the suspensions.
Miami Hurricanes- Sorry Grandpa Nevad, but I don't like Kyle Wright or their schedule. FSU, at Louisville, at Georgia Tech, VT, BC. Not easy in the ACC anymore! Plus, they are due to have more players arrested during the season.
USC Trojans- I know I have them ranked 7th, but are they that good? I can't imagine this team being that good after losing so much.

Sleepers- Some one needs to sneak up on some teams. Here are my sleepers for the upcoming season!

Georgia Bulldogs- Who is the QB going to be? A Senior or Freshman? The loss of DJ Shockley will really hurt this team but hopefully Thomas Brown can carry the load and the team. The defense needs to return after forgetting to show up at the Sugar Bowl against WVU. Jarvis Jackson will lead the D against Colorado, Tenn, Florida, Aubrun, and Tech.
Texas Tech- One of these year Tech is going to win the Big 12 and it might as well be this year. You know they are going to throw for 500 yards a game, but the defense needs to hold. Look out as they host Texas on Oct. 28!
Nebraska Cornhuskers- If Zac Taylor can keep throwing the ball around to his receivers, the Huskers have a chance to surprise alot of people. A lack of running game may hurt Nebraska. Games at USC and home to Texas give them the chance to be looked at again. Is this the Penn State from last year?
Wisconsin Badgers- Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa. Don't look past the Badgers and John Stocco. The Badgers get lucky and don't play Michigan State and Ohio State this year. The problem...games at Iowa and Michigan. You have to love to hate their out of conference match ups: Bowling Green, Western Illinois, San Diego State, and Buffalo. Good first season for new coach Bret Bielema.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict 3 HUGE upsets for this season. If I'm wrong...oh well!

1. September 2- Opening Week...Georgia Tech over Notre Dame. You heard it hear first my friends! Reggie Ball will finally look like the QB he has supposed to have been and Calvin Johnson shows why he is the best WR in the land. Could be a high scoring shoot out in Atlanta!

2. September 9- Central Florida over Florida Gators. With Florida looking ahead to the Vols, George O'Leary and the Golden Knights will come in and surprise the Gators in the swamp! UCF QB Steven Moffett and gang route the Gators in a shocker!

3. October 14- Michigan State over Ohio State. You didn't think I would do all this and not mention the Sparties did you? After last year's embarassment in Columbus, Drew Stanton and company want revenge. Playing Michigan and Ohio State back to back will kill the Spartans or give them a nice boost of confidence!
